Hey, do you want a glimpse into the future?
Intel has announced its latest chip named “Atom.” It features a 45nm process up to 1.8GHz which is close to my current intel duo core chip in my Macbook. Oh, and it’s smaller than a penny.
It’s due out this year.
“This is our smallest processor built with the world’s smallest transistors,” Intel Executive Vice President and Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Sean Maloney said in a statement. “This is…a fundamental new shift in design. We believe it will unleash new innovation across the industry.”(www.news.com)
So…here’s an interesting tie in.
Steve Jobs was asked after this year’s Mac expo what’s next. Apparently he smiled and said, “a new apple pda.” Mac rumor sources inside Apple said that the only reason that this wasn’t announced during the expo is because several designers were taken off the new “Newton” project for the Iphone updates. Also, without the official announcement of the “Atom” (which will be the chip in the new line) a formal announcement couldn’t be made.
So, the predictions are that Apple will launch a newborn “Newton” hand held that is based on the touch screen tech of Iphone – with a slightly larger screen and even slimmer body. Also rumored is a whole new line of computers called “Netbooks” which are ultra thin and portable.
